Ventriloquism and YOU!

Ventriloquism today has seen a wonderful rebirth! Ventriloquists like Jeff Dunham, Ron Lucas, Dan Horn, Terry Fator, etc. have brought ventriloquism to the forefront again. These ventriloquists are the Edgar Bergan’s, Paul Winch ell’s , and Jimmy Nelson’s of our era. How can you as a ventriloquist keep this momentum going? By mentoring! Mentoring is a fabulous way to encourage others in this wonderful art. Do you have a ventriloquist character or puppet, ventriloquist instruction DVD, CD or book that you aren’t using? Consider donating it to someone that has an interest in ventriloquism. One good example of how mentoring has been very successful is the AOPA’s (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, www.aopa.com) program. In this program, a pilot takes under his wing (no pun intended) a person who is interested in flying, take them to fly-ins, club meetings, etc. How can this apply to us as ventriloquists? By interesting others in learning this art we can take them to our shows, take them to see a ventriloquist passing through town, sponsoring a trip to a ventriloquist convention and such.
